What is Break Bulk Cargo?
Break bulk cargo refers to goods that cannot fit into standard shipping containers because of their size, weight, or shape. These shipments are transported as individual units and commonly include construction equipment, automotive and industrial machinery, oil and gas equipment, offshore components, steel products, timber, cars, trucks, and yachts.
Also known as Lift-on/Lift-off (LOLO) cargo, break bulk shipments are loaded and unloaded using cranes at specialized ports and vessels. Cargo can be handled as individual pieces or packed in bags, boxes, crates, drums, pallets, or barrels, allowing safe and flexible transportation of oversized and heavy goods.

RORO is ideal for oversized or over-dimensional cargo that cannot fit into standard 20ft or 40ft shipping containers but can be safely moved on wheels.
Vehicles and machinery such as cars, trucks, construction equipment, mining machinery, and earth-moving equipment can be driven or rolled directly onto specialized RORO vessels. This approach can reduce handling, packing, dismantling, and reassembly costs while providing an efficient solution for international transportation.
RORO vessels feature built-in ramps for efficient loading and unloading, while freight charges are generally calculated according to cargo volume or weight, whichever is greater. As vessel space can be limited, advance booking is recommended, particularly for high-demand routes and seasonal shipping periods.
